Some of Donald Trump’s supporters appeared to leave his Madison Square Garden (MSG) rally early, a video shows.
Crowd size and how long folks stay at a rally has been a consistent topic in the run-up to the election on November 5, especially after Kamala Harris said people leave Trump’s events “out of exhaustion and boredom” during the pair’s TV presidential debate on September 13.
Multiple posts on social media have claimed that people made an early exit from Trump’s major rally at MSG in New York on Sunday.
CNN journalist DJ Judd shared photos of people walking up the aisles in between rows of seats at the 19,500-seat arena, which was sold out, according to Reuters.
Judd wrote: “We’re about an hour into former President Donald Trump’s much-ballyhooed Madison Square Garden remarks— but Trump took the stage about two hours late. Perhaps mindful of how late it’s getting, supporters have begun streaming for the exits, even though he’s still speaking.”
Meanwhile, the host of the YouTube show WTF America (@gracewein) posted a clip of people walking up the stairs.
“Trump’s been on at MSG for about 45 minutes — 2 hours behind schedule — lotta people hitting the road early,” she said.
Oliya Scootercaster, who describes herself as a Ukrainian-American journalist, posted a similar video, which showed people walking up and down the aisle before cutting to a group getting up from their seats and shuffling through the crowd toward the aisle.
She wrote: “Madison Square Garden is still visibly full, however after waiting for many hours to get inside, some attendees beginning to leave after getting a glance at Trump. Some Trump Supporters gathered to wait in line as early as 24 hours ago to attend his NYC rally.”
In the same thread, Scootercaster shared a clip from outside of MSG, appearing to show people exiting. She also showed multiple Trump supporters standing outside the iconic venue to watch Trump’s speech on its big screens.
“As those who were inside were leaving, crowds who didn’t get in continued to watch Trump’s speech on MSG screens,” she said.
Newsweek has contacted Trump’s team, via email outside of normal working hours, for comment.
Trump’s team has previously told Newsweek: “Nobody is leaving our rallies, whereas Kamala needs to bus in people to her events and use curtains to cover up large sections of her rallies because they are so poorly attended.”
MSG can cost upward of $1 million to rent but tickets to the rally were free and available on a first-come-first-served basis, Reuters reported.
Harris held a rally with Beyoncé on Friday, in Houston, which around 30,000 people are believed to have attended.
